How interesting! Some folks looking nothing like they did, others exactly the same. Some people's interests and personalities seem exactly the same, like a certain Booie for instance. But then there are things about some people whose paths you crossed that take you by surprise.

Take this young lady for instance, Nikol Kollars (www.nikolkollars.com). Given how some react to things posted about them on the internet, I won't go in to what little I remember. Suffice it to say that I worked with Nikol and knew of her, many many moons ago.

I was stunned and pleased to see how well she's done for herself, and again, yes this post is about music. She's a musician. And a good one at that. Jazzy, funky, eclectic sounding. Not my typical style of music, but suffice it to say that I listened to everything she had posted on her web site, and I wouldn't mind hearing more. I'm obviously not a music reviewer, so you won't hear me say all the things that people who write reviews usually do. I did however want to at least steer folks towards towards this young ladies music (www.nikolkollars.com) with the most highly rated public safety site on MSN . Enough said. TRM / The Regulator Room founder

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-05-22T20:52:49Z</dcterms:modified>

I'm not ready to make nice has nothing to do with relationship problems

I was one of the many who lambasted the Dixie Chicks about their comments directed at President Bush and the War on Terror a couple of years ago. However, I didn't advocate violence towards them, and apparently some did. While still at Camp Premier, the kitchen guys from Saint Bernard Relief Catering, Desi's Restaurant employees who got a FEMA contract to provide food services at Camp Premier in Chalmette, had VH1 playing on the big screen in the cafeteria. I was passing through one day about a month ago and saw this cool looking video, and I recognized the voices of the Dixie Chicks. It was their song "I'm not ready to make nice" playing. I liked the song, so I downloaded it from the MP3 service that I subscribe too. Initially, I thought the song was about about a woman who was ticked off at her husband / boyfriend for something. Listening to the song over and over again though it donned on me that the Chicks were talking about politics, and their comments a couple years ago at a London concert. I guess some nuckle draggers decided to make death threats. What a bunch of goons. While I don't necessarily agree with the political overtones of the statements made by the Chicks, I certainly don't agree with people threatening their lives over it. If anything, this makes me all the more proud to say that I enjoy the Dixie Chicks music, and I certainly won't but chastising them so quickly in the future... They stand up for their beliefs, and this song is proof positive of that... TRM / The Regulator Room founder

Dixie Chicks Discuss Death Threats

Thursday , May 11, 2006

NEW YORK — Natalie Maines says one of the death threats she received after criticizing President Bush three years ago was "definitely scary" because the sender "had a plan."

Maines, lead singer of the Dixie Chicks, told a London audience during a March 10, 2003, concert: "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas." The comment was made as war was looming with Iraq, and Maines later apologized for the phrasing of her remark.

In an interview on CBS' "60 Minutes" to air Sunday (7 p.m. EDT), Maines says one threat she received in the summer of 2003 was different from the others.

"It was definitely scary because it seemed so — it wasn't just somebody wanting to write a hate letter," she says. "It was somebody who obviously thought they had a plan."

Emily Robison, who plays banjo and guitar in the Texas trio, says, "There was one specific death threat on Natalie. (It) had a time, had a place, had a weapon. I mean, everything. ...`You will be shot dead at your show in Dallas."'

The band flew into Dallas, "went straight from the police cars to the stage and straight from the stage back to the police cars and back to the plane," Maines says. "So, you know, it was all surreal. But at that stage, everything was surreal."

Her London comment angered many country music fans and caused radio stations to pull Dixie Chicks music from their playlists. The Chicks said they received death threats, leading them to install metal detectors at their shows.

Today, the Chicks refuse to apologize to fans who were upset by Maines' comment.

"We don't make decisions based on that," Maines says. "We don't go, `OK, our fans are in the red states, so I'm going to play a red, white and blue guitar and put on my I Love Bush T-shirt.

"We're not like that because we're not politicians. We're musicians."

The band, which also includes fiddle and mandolin player Martie Maguire, echoes that sentiment in the song "Not Ready to Make Nice" on their latest album, "Taking the Long Way," slated for release May 23.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-05-12T16:04:35Z</dcterms:modified>
